When professionally cleaned, they are totally removed. Spills: Spills come from liquids (soft drinks, coffee, vomit, urine, etc.). The liquid has gone beyond the carpet fiber, backing, and into the padding. Due to wicking (capilary) action after cleaning, the residue may wick back up to the tips of the fibers. Special treatment to these areas can reduce the chances of their return. Stains: Stains are permanent in nature. Usually identified by bright colors. Some mustards, colored spices, Kool-Aid, wines, spaghetti sauce, furniture stains, make-up, paint, etc. are often lightened in color, but not completely removed. Filtration: Filtration is that unsightly dark deposit found along the edges where the baseboards meet the carpet. Air currents inside the home cool and drop or deposit pollution and soot-like deposits at the base of the walls or under door openings. These complex chemical deposits require special attention to remove. If not periodically removed, permanent discoloration can result. Glossary of Terms Most Asked ?’s Q. Do I need to move furniture? A. 80% of the dirt is found in only 20% of your carpet—that’s where you walk. Under the furniture is not dirty, but if you want to remove as many items as reasonably possible prior to our arrival, that’s fine. In most cases, we will move a sofa, coffee table and two recliners. Any other furniture moving would be an additional fee. Q. How long will the carpet take to dry? A. Drying times vary widely. Furnace fans and ceiling fans reduce drying times. In general, berber carpets take longer to dry. You can walk on the carpet immediately; barefoot or indoor footware is preferred. Q. Why insist on truck mounted equipment only? A. CAUTION! Portable machines leave more dirt and water in the carpet. This causes oversoaking, longer drying times, and a need for more frequent cleaning. Home-style and rental units produce the same poor results. Q. What about the new “frieze” carpeting trend? A. CAUTION! In recent years, stores that sell carpeting have been pushing a style of carpet known as frieze. This carpet shows more wear and cleans so poorly that I would rate it the worst carpeting we have seen in the industry in the last 30 years. This carpet needs cleaning in high traffic area every 6 months. CARPET MYTHS Q. If I clean my carpet, it will get dirtier faster. A. FALSE! If you wash your clothes, do they get dirtier faster? Of course not. New technology in detergents, fiber construction and powerful truck-mounted steam extraction has virtually eliminated premature resoiling. Home-style, “do-it-yourself” machines or rental units just do not have the power to deep clean the fibers, which may cause a resoiling build-up. Q. If I clean my carpet, it will wear out faster? A. FALSE! Nothing could be further from the truth. The number one reason carpet wears out is foot traffic. However, not walking on the carpet is not a practical option. According to carpet manufacturers, regular vacuuming and truck mounted steam cleaning are recommended to extend the life of your carpet. Did you know that if you don’t clean your new carpet professionally (truck mounted steam cleaned) within the first two years you may have voided your warranty? Remember, carpets soil like a trash can— it fills from the bottom up. When looking at your carpet, you cannot see all the build up which has occurred until it’s too late. By the time you see a dark traffic pattern, you may have waited too long and may have ruined your carpet. Q. How often should I clean my carpet? A. High traffic areas such as family rooms, stairs and hallways need cleaning every six months. Upper level or basement carpets may only need cleaning once a year. Hard surface areas are the biggest dirt generators. Socks, bare feet and shoes transfer dirt from hard floor surfaces into your carpet. You don’t realize how much dirt your carpet picks up and hides. Q. My bedroom carpet doesn’t look dirty. Isn’t vacuuming enough? A. Vacuums may leave behind as much as 50% of dirt which vibrates downward—if you could only see the dust mites, animal oils, etc. A person sheds enough skin flakes every night to feed nearly 1,000,000 dust mites. It’s the dust mite excretion that has long been recognized as a leading cause of allergies and asthma. Protect your family’s health with a regular schedule of carpet cleaning. Ask about our “semi-annual” program. It may be less than you’re currently spending for one cleaning. If we clean and restore a floor, it is as clean it’s going to come safely, as we will not use homemade remedies such as bleach, acids, ammonia, etc. If finishes or sealers have been previously applied to the tile/ grout, an additional fee would be charged to remove those coating, as they are not part of normal cleaning and restoring procedures. Cleaning: Cleaning relates to normal, routine maintenance. We spray a degreaser/cleaner onto the tile/grout, then follow up with the Spinner®. The Spinner® is spraying out 212º water (steam) at a pressure of 500psi, contained under a housing, tremendous vacuum removes the dirty water out to the truck mount. In most cases where the floors are kept up by the homeowners regular cleaning, this level of cleaning will bring the floor back nicely. In areas where heavy amounts of grease develop (such as in the kitchen area), restoring may be necessary. Restoring: Restoring is a secondary, more powerful, detailed cleaning. Restoring uses stronger chemicals, hand brushing, and additional times over the tile/grout surface. Sealing: Sealing is important to provide a level of protection, or insurance, against dye related liquids or products permanently leaving stains in the grout, which is very porous by nature. This sealing process usually takes less than a half an hour to complete and dries in 1-2 hours (for foot traffic).
